Bosch Grade-x IDE

Bosch Automotive wanted to take their existing automotive diagnostic setup application which was desktop based built using eclipse and make it more user friendly and usable on either tablets or laptops.
Year: 2015
Roles: UX Lead, UI Designer
Position: The only UX Designer on the automotive agile team
Overview
The existing customer portal was very dated and hard to navigate. We needed to create a usable application that would allow for some modern functionality.

User research and wireframes

Now we had a good understanding of the customer and users' approach. We started putting together a fuller featured prototype, including the full design. The application had to work the same on either tablet or phone device, so this had to be considered whilst making use of each device's capabilities.

Prototypes and user testing

I created quite a lot of prototypes with the teams help and input. We took these prototypes out to engineers to test in the field and see if they felt they would answer the daily issues they were facing. We did iterate the designs several times to get a first version of the app.

The Results

The first version of the mobile Grade-x IDE app concentrated on the desktop application’s core functionality and allowed engineers to make amends and tests quickly without delving into the very complicated and time-consuming desktop version.
